Outdoor Kitchens
If you entertain a lot and want to spend time outdoors then you will be interested in designing an outdoor kitchen. This will allow you to spend more time outdoors with family & friends. The design of your outdoor kitchen will depend on the space available, budget & the type of gatherings you are planning.
COUNTERTOPS
All outdoor kitchens needs countertops where you can place food, the grill and things you want to serve. Granite countertops are a preferred choice for outdoor kitchens as they are durable & not very easily damaged by exposure to UV rays & moisture. They also are very easy to clean and maintain.
STORAGE
The outdoor kitchen should have at least some storage. This will enable you to keep basic things such as, cutlery & plates. This will save multiple trips to the kitchen and going in & out of the home. Sauces and condiments can also be stored. Being able to stock up outside will give you more time with family & guests.
SINKS
The outdoor kitchen should have a sink and water supply. This will help with hand washing, glasses and other dishware that have been used. This will help in the cleanup process as well. Things can be cleaned outside and then taken inside if needed without bringing the mess in the home.
REFRIGERATOR
This is a must for outside kitchens. This will enhance the comfort and the value of the outdoor space. You can store cool drinks, ice, chilled salads, sauces and even ice cream. This is easier when hosting events, as guests can simply grab a cool drink as they wait for the meal to be served.
LIGHTING
Plenty of lighting over the countertop and near the cooking area is a must. This enables you to use the space at night. This gives you the option of moonlight evenings with your family, and adequate lighting will mean you can spend more time outdoors preparing meals and eating them.
SEATING
When designing an outdoor kitchen you can fix permanent seating close to the kitchen area in the form of wooden or wrought iron benches and tables, or use stackable, movable, chairs & tables. The permanent will mean less work when hosting as you do not have to arrange tables & chairs each time. However, you will have more flexibility in stackable furniture that can be moved or changed for different events. Plus, it can be stored in the winter time or bad weather & not in use.
A properly planned outdoor space is a terrific way to increase the time spent with family and friends outdoors. You can spend more time soaking in the sun or enjoying the fresh breeze in the evenings. Spending time outdoors is very relaxing and will unwind you mentally preparing you for the day or the week ahead. This also adds value to the worth of your home. Families crave this kind of setting.
